I began my career as an educator based on my family’s affiliation with education, and my desire to turn my experiences as a student in the public schools of Syracuse, N.Y. into tangible, manageable, creative, and vigorous, yet attainable achievements for ALL types of learners. The “one-size-fits-all” instructional practices had to evolve.

I began my first year of teaching with the goalto bring students with learning disabilities into the mainstream classroom in Florida. This was a challenge not only for me, but for the students on Individualized Education Plans who had only been in small-group learning environments and the general education teachers.

From there, I worked in a co-taught inclusive classroom with a 1/3 ratio of students on IEPs and general education students as a special educator in a diverse, urban, low-income school in a K-2 setting in New York State.

My next move took me to the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts as I continued my special education role as a teacher in a Co-Taught model for students, again a 1/3 ratio, in a fourth-grade classroom. After several years, I took the position of a fifth-grade teacher in the same school, being recognized for my students’ accomplishments as some of the highest performers on the state’s mandated comprehensive science assessment. During the summers, I was a Co-Coordinator of Summer School Special Education for middle schoolers focusing on math for 11 years.

Lastly, I moved to Northern New Jersey to teach English Language Arts and Social Studies in a bi-lingual Pre-K through Eighth Grade Public School in Newark. In 2023 my students placed first in the district for the NJSLA in English Language Arts. My classroom consisted of general education, special education, and bi-lingual students.
